I-stay@home again topic at Aareon Congress Germany

At the beginning of June, I-stay@home was once more topic at the annual Aareon Congress in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, one of the most important events in the housing business in Germany.

This year’s presentation on I-stay@home was held by project partner Prof. Dr. Volker Eichener from EBZ Business School in cooperation with Hans-Georg Schneider, chief representative of Aareon AG.

Together they introduced products that are already on the market providing support in areas like indoor air quality, safety, security and comfort or barrier reduction. According to a study from 2011, more than 50% of the elderly people consider assistance by service robots. Nevertheless, in the area of assisting technology, further development is required concerning technical maturity of solutions or devices, integration of stand-alone-solutions or uniform and easy user interfaces on integrated technical platforms. The prototype of such a platform will be developed and tested within the I-stay@home project.

Most of the presented products might still be picked for the live test phase in I-stay@home test dwellings in 2014.

Especially the outcomes of a survey among German housing associations together with selected results from last year’s I-stay@home tenant survey impressed the audience and encouraged discussions afterwards. EBZ found out that only one third of the housing associations are already active in finding ways to cope with demographic change. Hence, there is great potential for ICT solutions or other assistance systems and other approaches.

All in all, it could be noted that I-stay@home stays an important topic throughout the business that will be discussed further also among other housing organizations. Therefore, the progress of the project will be monitored closely and the outcomes will be appreciated.
